Start building those karts NOW! After a very successful event last year The Otterton Grand Soapbox Derby returns on Saturday 20th June 2026 and this year we have another new course!

Karts all need to have mechanical brakes, mechanical steering and no sharp edges. Maximum of three passengers and all passengers/ drivers must wear a crash helmet. Adult entries are £25 and £5 for under 16's.  Please enter online to avoid disappointment on the day.

The Rules

It is not a neck-and-neck race, competitors will be asked to bring an unpowered homemade kart/ soapbox and the winner will be the one who rolls the furthest from a standing start. We do not want to produce a massive list of rules for constructors, but the following are essential:

1. KARTS MUST HAVE A MINIMUM OF FOUR WHEELS.
2. KARTS MUST HAVE AN EFFECTIVE BRAKING AND STEERING SYSTEM.
3. COMPETITORS MUST WEAR A HELMET TO ECE2205 QUALITY, LONG CLOTHING (PREFERABLY WELL PADDED) AND STURDY FOOTWEAR.
4. MULTI-PERSON KARTS ARE ALLOWED AS LONG AS EACH MEMBER OF THE CREW HAS A PROPER SEAT.
5. KART MUST HAVE NO SHARP EDGES OR PROJECTIONS.
6. ALL ENTRIES WILL BE SUBJECT TO A BRIEF SCRUTINEERING BEFORE BEING ALLOWED TO START THE COURSE. THE JUDGES’ DECISION IS FINAL.
7. ALL ENTRANTS PARTICIPATE AT THEIR OWN RISK.

We trust competitors to stick to the spirit of the rules so we don’t have to over-regulate this event in
future!

Gates are open from 8.30am  Please try to arrive by 9am and have your kart in the paddock by 10.00am for judging of the constructor's trophy followed by the race order draw and the drivers briefing. Downhill runs will commence at approximately 11am. A flatbed trailer will be available to take your kart up to the start of the course.

All proceeds will go towards village community projects.
